Introduction

Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) was set up in August 1993 and is registered under the Companies Act, 1956.

The Company has been promoted by Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) as its 100% owned subsidiary, in the context of liberalization and as a part of efforts towards restructuring of the Power Sector.

The basic objectives of GSECL is to initiate a process of restructuring of Power Sector and to mobilize resources from the market for the purpose of adding to the generating capacity of the State. The Memorandum and Article of Association of GSECL envisage a wide spectrum of activities which include not only generation of electricity but also transmission, distribution and related activities. As a first step, a GSECL has initiated its activities in the field of generation of Power. Government of Gujarat has also given to the GSECL, a status of Independent Power Producer (IPP) under Section 43 A of the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1948. The GSECL has also received approval from the Government of Gujarat as a generating Company to undertake new Power Projects.
