Introduction
The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC)
is an independent and autonomous body created by the Government of
Gujarat through the power conferred under the Electricity Regulatory
Commission Act (ERC), 1998. The mandate of the Commission is to
create an environment for dynamic and equitable growth of
electricity industry in the State of Gujarat. The Commission started
its functioning on 19 April, 1999 from its office located in
Ahmedabad.The first commission sworn in under the chairmanship of
Justice D.G.Karia. The Commission comprises of a Chairman and two
other members and is supported in its functioning by professional
staff with expertise' in engineering, law, economics and IT skills.
The Commission has also constituted a broad-based Commission
Advisory Committee to advise on matters of policy, tariff setting
and other important issues concerning the electricity industry.
