Gujarat has inexhaustible storage of crude oil and gas and after the declaration  of liberalization policy in the hydro-carbon sector by Govt. of India, many of the companies, being joined the generation/Distribution agreement with Govt. of India, have been operational in research of oil and gas fields and generation thereof in Gujarat.

With a view to meet with the sustained development and to make assessment of production of oil and natural gas and royalty payable there. upon in Gujarat, the Government of Gujarat has Constituted Directorate of petroleum and the same has been functional.
